About

Hi, I’m Jach!

I like the simple things in life. Soft-boiled eggs and kaya toast for breakfast at the neighbourhood kopitiam. Good and cheap food. Bumming at the beach. Going to the gym. Staring at art. Geeking out at world history. Petting dogs. Hiking. and of course, travel!

Family trips were never really a thing growing up, we were too busy dealing with the cards life dealt us. For most of my youth I travelled the only way I could – via the internet! I called it “couch travelling”, reading travel blogs, watching YouTube videos and lurking on Google Maps street view. I’ve always been curious about the world.

My 20s were spent making mistakes and figuring out my place in this world. I believe my 30s are going to be spent finding my way back to myself, and seeing more of the world.

I’m most inspired to travel because of my papa. My dad has always had an adventurous spirit. He loves exploring, fishing, cycling and trying new dishes. He barely speaks English but is able to connect with any stranger. Growing up I remember him bringing me on small adventures, feeding wild monkeys in Mandai, discovering a secret swimming hole in Tampines Quarry, and riding through the forest on his motorcycle. Papa finds adventure in everyday life.

Travel to me is all about the simple things. Sharing a meal – homely, comforting authentic local food. Stepping into someone’s shoes, experiencing everyday life in their perspective. Appreciating different cultures and ways of life. Sunsets and sunrises, experiencing the beauty that Mother Nature has lovingly shared with us.

Experiences that stay etched in memory, travel that transcends language.

This site will serve as a journal to remember all the joy that life brings.

Fun Facts

I have really bad motion sickness. My first amusement park ride was the teacup ride, and I threw up my Burger King chicken sandwich after. That was in primary school, I believe I’m getting better.

I only learnt how to swim when I turned 30. My 10 year-old nephew taught me! I’ve gone snorkelling in New Zealand, and would want to learn how to dive next.

I’m a certified Personal Trainer with NCSF. Fitness has always been a journey for me, working through getting bullied in school, stress binge eating and body dysmorphia.

I have been doing freelance photography and videography for the past 10 years. It’s my main source of income, and how I afford travel! Like my content? Send me a ko-fi. Affiliate links coming soon! You can also follow me on my social media platforms.

The highest mountain I’ve summitted so far is Sandakphu in India, at 3,636 m (11,929 ft). Sandakphu is in the Singalila Ridge on the border between India and Nepal, and is the highest point of the ridge and of the state of West Bengal, India. Famous for its outstanding views of the Kangchenjunga range (the sleeping Buddha), along with Everest, Makalu and Lhotse. Seeing them in all their glory truly sparked my passion for trekking. I did the trek as part of a double summit tour (Sandakphu & Phalut) with India Hikes in November 2024. More summits to come!

Nice to meet you!
